Sayulita is a lovely fishing village and surfing destination that gives you an opportunity to experience small town Mexico just 45 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta airport. It has beautiful beaches, lush jungle, and a bustling local village life. I started visiting Sayulita and my friends at Xocotla (a great guest house!) 9 years ago and have watched Sayulita both change and remain the same. It has maintained with wonderful warmth and energy, where a great cross-section of people from all over Mexico, Canada, Europe, and the US have chosen to build their lives and invest in the town.
The many, many fabulous restaurants, stores, festivals, community events, services, artists and activists make Sayulita the wonderful place it is.
The photos below, some by my dear friend Brian Ylitalo, are a small portrait of the Sayulita that I have seen.
Sayulita Turtle Release - November 2021 In November, we finally went to the Sayulita Turtle Camp for a turtle release on the beach - something I have wanted to do for years!! It was a truly special and fun experience to play a small part in the safe release of a little bowl of turtles! After 13-15 years, the mom turtles return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. They lay their eggs on the beach at night, and not always in safe places for gestation - threats exist from animals and poachers. The great folks at Campamento Tortuguero Sayulita (Sayulita Turtle Camp) monitor and protect the eggs, and, when hatched, failitate the safe realase into the surf. The release takes place every night around sunset between August - December. Campamento Torturguero Sayulita is a volunteer driven non-profit that has been working hard to protect the turtles on Sayulita's beach for over seven years and have sucessfully liberated over 21,000 newborn turtles. Check them out on Facebook!
Dia de los muertos - October 2021 I have always wanted to be in Sayulita for Dia de los muertos and this year, I finally made it!! I chose my retirement date so that it would be the launch of the new chapter of my life!! Here are a few pics of this lovely, and loving event in Sayulita - even with COVID - people came out to honour family who had passed and welcome them!!
Food, Glorious Food!!!! - December 2021 We have some family who are considering a vist to Sayulita this Spring. They are real foodies! So, I thought I would share the random pics taken over the last few months to showcase the amazing food on offer in restaurants, on the beach, and on the street!! Hope it convinces you to visit too!!
A New Pool!!! By Barb Motzney March 2018 Thanks to a great crew, a stunning new pool is complete. It is even more beautiful than I expected!
New Rooftop Palapa By Barb Motzney September 2016 During the quieter months this year we took a few weeks to re-tile the roof terrace, put up new wrought iron railings and a great new larger palapa! Wow!! I cannot wait to see it in person myself!!
Beach Toes (Another New Painting) By Barb Motzney September 2016 Artist Darlene Hassall visited earlier this year and contributed another great piece to the Casa. Thanks Dar!!
Barbara’s place is great. Got exactly what we signed up for. October 2021, John, Washington
Really lovely place, had a great time. Thank you! October 2021 Sarah, USA
The view from the very top is un-matched! September 2021, Julie San Francisco Amazing locaiton so close to the heart of Sayulita with killer views frmo the roof! The house is huge which is great for 2 couples or some friends. It is a little weird to get used to every level being separated and having to go outside to get to the next room. Pool is a great respite from the heat and the outdoor shower in the lower bedroom is so fun and gorgeous! June 2021, Taomina, Washington
Awesome house and stay at Casa Dichosa! We loved the pool and the palapa deck. Would defnitely stay here again! May 2021, Max, San Francisco
We spent three nights in the house and we very comfortable. It is direclty above, 5 minutes one of the main streeets of the town, but as it is higher up you cannot hear anything from the bars at all. The house is divided into 4 floors each with terrraces. There is a lot of space and a very good atmosphere. May 2021, Max, Germany (Original in Spanish)
It is an amazing house! It has an amazing view from the top of the palapa deck and mostly every terrace of the house. It is very cozy and has the perfect space for one or two famiites to stay comforabley. The heated pool was big win for our kinds, they enjoyed it a ton and was very difficult to get them out of there! April 2021, Jose, Mexico (Exerpt)
Excellent location, a very warm stay and great attention. January 2021, Diego, Mexico City (Original in Spanish)
A lovely split- level house, with plenty of spacious options for hanging out - either indoors or out. Great view from the terrace with the palapa -good to be so near the birds and palm tops. January 2021, Bridget, UK( Excerpt)
Thank you again for the opportunity to stay in your home. We were all blown away at how spectacular the accommodations and the views were. The amenities made a big difference in our experience, from the kitchen set up, to simple things like beach towels and beach totes. The support from Ramon and his group was a “10”. You have put together an awesome vacation venue and experience. Jack, North Carolina, USA
This is a perfect house for two couples with four levels and each couple having their own floor. Private pool was great and the top level palapa has an amazing view with a few places to hang a hammock. As this info suggests, only book this place if you are all able-bodied adults as there are a lot of stairs to climb, so no kids or elderly. Close to town and all the restaurants but far enough for a little peace and quiet up on “Gringo Hill”. Also, the property manager was fantastic and followed up instantly with any issues we had. Nick, USA (Oct 2020)
Great location and a great set-up for two couples. Maureen, Alberta, Canada (Feb 2020)
Great spot to stay in Sayulita, right on Gringo Hill so close to all the action, house was clean and pool was great. Kevin, Oregon, USA (Feb 2020)
This house is a dream. Just rent it. It’s right above town. Two bedrooms are on their own private floors so you can be with your group or go take a nap. Cute pool, awesome top deck with a view of the coast ... it’s perfect. Nick, California, USA (Jan 2020)
Casa Dichosa was absolutely amazing! Great bedrooms away from the common area on separate levels, beautiful patios, and exquisite views of Sayulita from the rooftop. Not to mention the pool on the main common area floor which was perfect for cooling down after a long day at the beach or exploring! Hands down would return and recommend! Adrian, Vancouver, Canada (Apr 2019)
The first words my friend said to me when I entered this house were “This place is exquisite” and that sums up our stay. Between morning coffee absorbing the view from the palapa, afternoons basking in the luxurious pool, and evenings playing games in the spacious living room, our entire experience of your home was an utter treat. This was my husband and my third trip to Sayulita and our favourite house by far. Justine & Elisha (Mar 2019)
Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise with us! You have a wonderful Casa. So loved the pool and the hammock for “reading” (siestas!) in the afternoon. What a great spot! Tim & Laura, Ontario, Canada (Jan 2019)
What an amazing spot you have here! We’ve had an amazing time — lots of good weather, swims, surf and cards — a fantastic holiday — muchas gracias!! We feel very fortunate to have vacationed at Casa Dichosa & Sayulita. Fantastic! Elaine & Hank, Ontario, Canada (Jan 2019)
Magical place to celebrate time together and Feliz Navidad. Perfect spot for gentle breezes, soft sun and morning by the pool. We won’t forget you, Casa Dichosa. Many thanks. Janet & Family, Saskatchewan, Canada
We had a wonderful time at Casa Dichosa. It is a lovely place and suited our needs very well. Nice staff! Dennis, Denver, Colorado, USA
Casa Dichosa is a piece of paradise. The view is amazing and you feel like you are living in a tropical garden. The house is decorated with flair, well equipped, clean, private and very safe. Ramon, the property manager, takes good care of all your needs and is very responsive. He ensured my luggage was delivered right to the house when it got lost in transit. We had some excellent dinners close to the town Centre in top notch restaurants like Miro Vino, Los Corrazones, and Sayulita Café. And the beach is only a 5 minute walk where you can swim, boogie board or surf. I will definitely be back for another holiday very soon. Kathryn, Halifax, Canada I stayed at Casa Dichosa for a week and in the morning the biggest conundrum of the day was: should I have my coffee on my private jungle terrace or should I join the others the main floor terrace? Or, should we all convene on the rooftop under the palapa to watch the swathe of morning sunlight adorn the mountain view and kiss the sea? Yoga or Mimosas? Decisions, decisions! When you stay at Casa Dichosa you choose your vibe – you have a private oasis to retreat to and you have the bustle and buzz of the vibrant Sayulita village few steps – enough steps – away. And then there is the beach, very close… I found everything I could have wanted in a completely architecturally gorgeous and relaxing jungle-meets-beach setting. Lisa, Montreal, Canada
